Building the Future: Mentorship & Community Impact

Darryle is the owner and principal consultant of Business Safety Solutions, where he helps organizations across Hawaii improve their safety programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and build cultures grounded in safety leadership. With more than three decades of hands-on experience, Darryle has held leadership roles across construction, roofing, energy, and industrial operations. He currently serves as Safety Director for the Commercial Roofing Family of Companies, overseeing programs, audits, and incident investigations for multiple firms.

As a certified Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Certified Instructional Trainer (CIT), and Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), Darryle brings unparalleled credentials to every training session he leads. But beyond certifications, what truly sets him apart is his passion for developing others.

Over the years, Darryle has delivered hundreds of safety courses that empower both management and frontline workers to lead with confidence. He’s trained professionals in OSHA standards, fall protection, HAZWOPER, CPR/First Aid, equipment safety, incident investigation, and more—each time using engaging, real-world instruction rooted in his own experience.

For Darryle, supporting BIA Hawaii is about more than professional development—it’s personal. Early in his career, he witnessed the consequences of poor safety training and vowed to be part of the solution. One story that shaped his mission was mentoring an apprentice who had suffered a serious incident on the job and nearly left the industry. Through Darryle’s coaching, that individual went on to become a respected safety leader, proving the life-changing power of education and mentorship.

Through BIA’s Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training (PACT) program, Darryle continues to train and inspire new professionals entering the field. His leadership helps ensure that these students—many of whom are entering construction for the first time—are equipped not only with the technical skills they need, but with the confidence to uphold safety as a core value.

As an active member of national organizations like the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) and National Association of Safety Professionals (NASP), Darryle also contributes to broader industry-wide initiatives and safety standards. His service on the General Contractors Association Safety Committee has helped shape best practices in Hawaii’s construction landscape.
