Our Story: Geena Thielen – Complete Construction Services

At BIA Hawaii, we are proud to spotlight the leaders whose expertise, integrity, and community spirit continue to shape the future of Hawaii’s building industry. Geena Thielen is one such leader—an accomplished general contractor, developer, and advocate whose decades of work have left a lasting mark on both custom homebuilding and affordable housing across the islands.

Building the Future: Mentorship & Community Impact

Geena became a licensed General Contractor in 1996 and founded Complete Construction Services in 2001. From the start, her work stood out—delivering high-end custom homes and renovation projects with precision, creativity, and heart. Her company earned consecutive placements on Hawaii’s Fastest 50, multiple BIA Renaissance Awards, and the distinction of 2019 BIA Builder of the Year, establishing her as one of the state’s most respected builders.

In 2021, Geena pivoted her focus toward addressing one of Hawaii’s most urgent needs: affordable housing. Through the City’s Bill 7 program, she has taken on the role of Developer and Construction Manager for multi-unit housing developments aimed at increasing density and livability in urban core neighborhoods. She has already completed two successful projects, with a third nearing completion—demonstrating not only her construction expertise, but her deep commitment to accessible housing solutions for local families.

Geena’s leadership extends far beyond the jobsite. She has long been a dedicated volunteer and advocate within the BIA Hawaii community, holding numerous leadership roles including BIA Hawaii President (2013), State Representative and National Area Chair at NAHB, Past Chair of the Government Relations Committee, and Current Chair of the Codes Committee. Her policy insight and advocacy have helped shape legislation and codes that affect contractors and homeowners alike.

She also lends her expertise to broader community causes, serving on the City and County of Honolulu’s Building Board of Appeals and the Board of Directors for the Hawaii Habitat for Humanity State Association—contributing her time and experience to support both equity in housing and high construction standards.

Why We Support BIA-Hawaii

Geena’s journey reflects everything BIA Hawaii stands for: professional excellence, service leadership, and a heart for community impact. Whether building luxury homes or tackling affordable housing challenges, she approaches each project with the same level of care, quality, and commitment to doing what's right.

As an educator and mentor within BIA Hawaii’s programs, Geena shares the wealth of knowledge she’s gained from decades of hands-on experience in the field. She inspires future builders, developers, and advocates—especially women entering construction—to take pride in their work, lead with integrity, and push for systemic change where it’s needed most.

We are proud to recognize and thank Geena Thielen for her lasting contributions to Hawaii’s building industry, her tireless advocacy, and her mentorship of the next generation of builders. She is not just constructing homes—she’s helping build a stronger, more inclusive Hawaii.
