Chad Hilweh | General Contractor | Hilweh Builders LLC

Our Story: Hilweh Builders LLC

I’m Chad Hilweh, co-founder of Hilweh Builders LLC, a licensed general contractor specializing in high-quality residential remodeling on Oahu. My wife, Liana, and I built this company with a commitment to craftsmanship, functionality, and design. We transform homes through thoughtful renovations, including kitchen and bathroom remodels, home additions, and full-home renovations.

As our business grew, we saw the demand for premium outdoor living spaces and launched Hawaii Deck Builders, a division dedicated to crafting high-quality decks, railings, pergolas, and outdoor spaces using wood, composite, and PVC materials.

Through every project, we stay true to our ALOHA values—Adaptability, Learning, Openness, High Quality, and Accountability. These principles drive us to deliver superior results and exceptional client experiences.

Building the Future: Mentorship & Community Impact

Beyond remodeling homes, I’m passionate about shaping the next generation of skilled tradespeople in Hawaii. We actively mentor two of our carpenters—one working toward a general contractor’s license and another training in project management—providing hands-on experience and career guidance.

Workforce development remains a challenge in Hawaii, particularly in recruiting and retaining skilled professionals. That’s why we partner with BIA-Hawaii and the PACT program to train and mentor aspiring tradespeople, demonstrating that construction is a rewarding and stable career path.

To uphold industry standards, we continuously invest in training and certifications, including TrexPro, TimberTech Pro, NADRA membership, Lead-Safe Certification, and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) training. Staying at the forefront of best practices ensures we deliver safe, high-quality craftsmanship.

Giving back is equally important to us. We’ve volunteered with the Hawai‘i Children’s Discovery Center, helping repair exhibits, and support Reuse Hawai‘i by donating and sourcing salvaged materials. Recently, we connected with the Center for Tomorrow’s Leaders, where we not only give back but also learn how to mentor the next generation more effectively.

By staying engaged with industry professionals, community organizations, and mentorship programs, we strengthen our business while contributing to a skilled, prepared workforce for Hawaii’s future.

Why We Joined BIA-Hawaii

We became members of BIA-Hawaii because their mission aligns with ours—advocating for general contractors, providing industry education, and supporting workforce development. As a nonprofit, they empower small businesses like ours with invaluable resources and networking opportunities.

Membership with BIA helps us build trust with homeowners and clients, reinforcing our commitment to quality and professionalism. It has also connected us with incredible industry leaders, suppliers, and contractors. Roseann, in particular, has been instrumental, introducing us to accelerator programs that have helped us scale our business.

We’re now collaborating with BIA on the PACT program to further workforce development in Hawaii. Liana is also eager to get involved with Professional Women in Building (PWB) to connect with and learn from other women in construction.

Being part of BIA-Hawaii has strengthened our company and expanded our opportunities—not just in business growth, but in shaping the future of Hawaii’s construction industry.
