Our Story: Tim Waite – Simpson Strong-Tie
At Simpson Strong-Tie, we believe that strong structures start with strong communities. That’s why we actively invest in workforce development, ensuring the next generation of construction professionals has the skills and knowledge to build safer, stronger homes and buildings. One of the individuals leading this mission in Hawaii is Tim Waite, a long-time industry expert and dedicated advocate for education and mentorship.
Building the Future: Mentorship & Community Impact
Tim has been an influential figure in Hawaii’s construction industry for decades. His career began as a research engineer at NAHB’s Home Innovation Research Labs, later transitioning to a leadership role as an executive director at NAHB’s National Housing Center in Washington, D.C. There, he trained construction professionals across the country, providing technical expertise and industry guidance.
In 1997, Tim brought his extensive experience to Hawaii, working as a consultant for the Building Industry Association (BIA) of Hawaii under a state-funded grant. During this time, he played a key role in establishing the original Construction Training Center (CTC) at BIA’s former Dillingham Boulevard location, a project that laid the foundation for what would become a vital resource for industry education and workforce development.
Over the years, Tim has continued to give back, serving on BIA’s Board of Directors and multiple committees, as well as contributing his expertise to the Hawaii Building Industry Foundation, which secures funding for students in the Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training (PACT) program at BIA. His dedication to mentoring and training aspiring tradespeople has helped shape countless careers and strengthened Hawaii’s construction workforce.
Why We Support BIA-Hawaii
Simpson Strong-Tie has always been committed to education and workforce development, and our partnership with BIA-Hawaii is a testament to that commitment. In fact, we were among the earliest supporters of the BIA Construction Training Center (CTC) in Waipahu, contributing the first $25,000 toward its development.
Tim’s passion for mentorship and education embodies Simpson Strong-Tie’s core values: relentless customer focus, risk-taking innovation, and giving back. His contributions to BIA-Hawaii and the construction community at large have helped ensure a skilled, knowledgeable workforce for the future.
We are proud to recognize and thank Tim Waite for his dedication to strengthening the industry and mentoring the next generation of builders. His impact will be felt for years to come.
