Our Story: Tristan Aldeguer – Hensel Phelps & Aldeguer Safety Consulting, LLC
At BIA Hawaii, we’re proud to highlight professionals who elevate the construction industry through leadership, experience, and a deep-rooted commitment to safety. Tristan Aldeguer, a seasoned safety manager and military veteran, brings all of that—and more—to every classroom and jobsite he supports.
Building the Future: Mentorship & Community Impact
Raised on the west side of O‘ahu in a single-story ranch home where his family farmed pigs, chickens, and flowers, Tristan describes himself as a true “country boy.” He spent part of his youth in North Carolina while his father served in the Army, and later graduated from Waiʻanae High School, where he lettered in football and received scholarship offers from colleges like Portland State University and the University of San Diego. But when faced with the financial burden of mainland tuition, Tristan made a bold choice: service over sports.
He joined the U.S. Army Reserve and specialized in Nuclear Biological Chemical Warfare, where he first discovered his interest in hazmat safety and hazardous waste handling. After returning from service in 2000, he enrolled at Honolulu Community College to pursue an associate degree in Occupational Environmental Safety Management (OESM)—a program offering both a direct path to employment and the chance to make a meaningful impact through safety leadership.
Despite a deployment to Iraq in 2006, Tristan completed his degree in 2010. He was one of the first students to participate in HCC’s internship program, now a required part of the curriculum. With no bachelor’s degree, he quickly proved that dedication and applied knowledge could open doors. His post-college career took off, managing safety operations for high-profile firms without ever losing sight of his original passion—protecting people.
Why We Support BIA-Hawaii
Tristan is now an Area Safety Manager at Hensel Phelps, overseeing safety on complex projects across Hawaii. He previously served as Health Safety Environmental Manager for Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, where he led a 22-person safety team and developed comprehensive preconstruction and field safety plans. Through his company, Aldeguer Safety Consulting, LLC, he also provides expert training and consulting to clients statewide.
A lifelong learner and industry leader, Tristan holds multiple credentials from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, including Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST). A past President of the Hawaii Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), he continues to advocate for high standards in workforce safety and professional development.
As an instructor with BIA Hawaii, Tristan shares his journey, technical expertise, and real-world insight with students entering the trades. He empowers them to think beyond the hard hats and hand tools—to recognize that safety leadership can be a career and a calling.
We are proud to recognize and thank Tristan Aldeguer for his steadfast commitment to safety, mentorship, and the next generation of Hawaii’s workforce. His path is proof that a strong foundation, grounded in values and purpose, can build a powerful future.
